Billy's New Mission to Help Kids
Billy Henderson and his wife Dawn are busier than ever now that they have retired. While they never would have imagined their retired life would be so full, they wouldn’t have it any other way.
After serving as a Marine, Billy had a successful career with AT&T. Now in retirement, Billy also serves as President of the Arkansas-Mississippi 2nd Marine Division Association and is a part of the local American Legion unit.
As you can see, Billy has had quite the career, but his and Dawn’s biggest highlight of the year comes from working with Toys for Tots. The couple has served as coordinators for the past two years, helping bring 33,000 toys to 13,000 children last year! Not satisfied with that number, they are hoping to bring even more toys to needy children this year! The months of October through December are now the busiest time of the year for them. Last year they were barely able to get their own Christmas tree up! For them, knowing these children will have presents to open on Christmas Day makes all of their efforts worthwhile.
Because of his work with Toys for Tots, Billy was a local nominee for the Jefferson Award, an award given to the “unsung heroes” that serve in their community. He is also part of a special project for the Marine Corps League called “Mississippi Faces of the Fallen”, which features fallen Mississippi veterans.
For Billy, helping children have a Christmas, spending time serving his fellow veterans, and giving back to the community are the best ways he and his wife could spend their retirement!
