How can you make a Difference?
Why do we like movies, books, and games? It seems that men like adventure moves, war movies, cowboy movies. Ladies like romance novels and chic flicks, but they like being the hero too.
John and Stasi Eldredge write in their books: Every man was once a boy. And every little boy has dreams, big dreams, dreams of being the hero, of beating the bad guys, of doing daring feats and rescuing the damsel in distress. Every little girl has dreams, too: of being rescued by her prince and swept up into a great adventure, knowing that she is the beauty. Every woman wants to play an irreplaceable role in a heroic adventure, not just to be useful but to be irreplaceable.
Wow, that’s a lot.
By now, most of us are old enough to think to ourselves, yes, this all sounded great when I was 10, wanted to be a fighter pilot and play first base for the Yankees. Isn’t that all behind me now?
But the truth is God wired us this way. Yet, what do we do about it. How can we make a difference in the World around us?
A truth to start with is that the Bible instructs us to be at work, stating in the book of James that Faith without works is dead. We also know from experience that working and serving others blesses us, fulfills us, gives us a sense and knowledge of great accomplishment.
