Joel Holden

After serving on the leadership team at Sound Financial since 2009, Joel recently transitioned to full ownership and management of the company. Joel graduated from Mississippi State with a bachelors in risk management, insurance and financial planning. He began his career with Sound in 2009. Since then, he has managed multiple projects to help move the company forward and become what it is today. His vision is not only operational but also deeply client-focused, with financial planning now the cornerstone of the firm’s offerings.

Joel leads the firm’s financial planning strategy. He works closely with advisors to refine planning processes, integrate best-in-class tools, and deliver tailored guidance to clients. Joel’s planning philosophy is grounded in an understanding of the unique challenges faced by small business owners and high-income earning professionals alike — from balancing business growth and cash flow with personal wealth goals, to addressing complex tax, retirement, and estate planning needs. By combining technical expertise with practical insight, Joel helps clients gain clarity and confidence as they pursue both professional success and personal financial security.

Joel and his wife, Susan, are active members at Broadmoor Baptist Church. Together, they have three daughters — Lela Cate, Ellie, and Maggie — who keep the household full of energy. Outside of work, Joel enjoys hunting, fishing, and nearly anything that allows him to be outdoors.
